The fifth Day of Interaction organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/ National Sports Commission is scheduled for Port Mourant, Corentyne tomorrow.
An anticipated five hundred athletes will take to the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground to compete in a number of sports disciplines, including Softball Cricket, Football, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Domino, Circle Tennis, Chess, Draughts among others. Port Mourant Ground is known for our cricketers Rohan Kanhai, Basil Butcher, Alvin Kallicharran and the Nagamootoo brothers.
The day’s activities will commence with an Opening Ceremony which will include a March Past by athletes and officials. Brief Remarks by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, Director of Sport, Mr. Neil Kumar, Regional Chairman Region #6, Mr. Zulfikar Mustapha and other Regional and Political officials.
There will be an educational exhibition and a medical team throughout the day.
The Day of Interaction is expected to be non – alcoholic. There will be no selling/consumption of alcohol during the activities at the venue.
At the completion of the activities, trophies will be awarded to the winners and runners – up.
To encourage the further development of sports, equipment will be presented to individuals, communities and schools.
The theme of the Day of Interaction is Sports for Combating HIV/AIDS and bringing awareness against violence, crime and drugs.
Some of Berbice best Sport Personalities are expected to grace the activity with their presence.
