The Mexican Embassy via a release has stated that contrary to what was reported in yesterday’s issue of this newspaper “Ten Guyanese to gain Mexican scholarship” there is no guarantee that ten Guyanese will be awarded the scholarship annually.
In addition, it was noted that from the headline of the article it could be interpreted as ten persons having secured the scholarship to be awarded to Guyana.
A total of 50 scholarships have been offered to CARICOM member states with no specific number of candidates assigned for each country.
The Government of Mexico will receive the number of candidates that Guyana would like to present, but the candidates will be subject to an assessment which will determine if they are accepted or not to the scholarship, the release stated. Fifty scholarships are being offered for courses to begin in 2010, but there is no guarantee that this would be a regular thing.
