The Classique Dance Company is set to dazzle the minds of dance enthusiasts with a production at the National Cultural Centre this evening.
The high energy production titled ‘Battle of the Sexes’ will begin at 20:00 hrs. The first half is entitled “A Classique Christmas” which will feature dances by the entire company including members of the National School of Dance.
The second half which inspired the theme will feature the actual battle comprising the Advanced and Company dancers.
The show is choreographed by the director and choreographer of the Classique Dance Company, Clive Prowell, with exception of the actual battle which is choreographed by each dancer themselves. In the battle, the boys are to compete against the girls, with each dancer choreographing a thirty seconds dance.
The show which will showcase performances of various dance styles is expected to appeal to supporters of all ages. Some of the dancers set to perform at the show are the popular company members such as Paul Charles, Ivor Williams, Leslyn Lashley and former Miss Guyana Universe Meleesa Payne.
They are expected to perform along with advanced dancers like the famous ‘Saints Boys’ Brendon Pindar, Noel Punch, Kester Andrews and Jamal Scott and others.
This, the final production of the year for the dance company, Classique and Friends will see local actors performing in the show along with others.
The Classique Dance Company was formed on March 5, 2000 by Director Clive Prowell. However, the Clive Prowell School of Dance was not officially formed until August 1 of this year. The company has performed in almost all the Caribbean countries and is expected to travel early next year.
The production ‘Battle of the Sexes’ is booked to perform in St. Maarten on Valentine’s Day next year. They are also expected to make their first North American tour some time next year.
The Company has won several awards both overseas and locally, which include the most previous Marcus Garvey Award of Excellence for Best Dance Production. The Classique Dance Company produces a total of three major productions yearly, being: Colour of La Dance, Dance Like you do and Classique and Friends.
