Athletes depart for this weekend’s showdown
Guyana’s premier male and female distance athletes, Alika Morgan and Cleveland Forde will compete this weekend at the ‘Run Barbados’ 10km Road Race in the ‘Land of the Flying Fish’ to complete their 2009/10 Season.
Kaieteur Sport understands that Forde departed Guyana for Barbados yesterday while his female counterpart, Morgan is expected to leave today for the prestigious year-end contest where both athletes will try to better last year’s finishes.
The duo both finished second last year in the competition where they were the first two of the Caribbean’s entrants to cross the finish line. A Kenyan had beaten Forde while one of the European competitors outdid Morgan.
Forde will enter the meet in good shape following his dominant performance in the South American 10km Road Race this year where he won the first two stages and placed second at the third and final stage in Panama.
Morgan recorded second place finishes at both the first and second stage, but turned in a winning performance at the Antigua Prime Minister’s 10km race where Forde also had a victory following his CARICOM 10km triumph.
Both athletes have had a dominant year on the road in the Caribbean will look to close their favourable season in that good shape.
