– staff members released
Police have detained a former member of the Guyana Defence Force and three other men as investigations continue into Monday’s $7M heist at the Wismar Post Office.
Kaieteur News understands that the detained men are from various sections of Linden. It is unclear whether detectives have found anything to connect the men to the robbery.
Meanwhile, police have released all the post office staff who were held following the robbery.
According to a source, investigators had suspected that there was some collusion between the gunmen and some postal employees, since the robbery reportedly occurred shortly after the cash was transported to the post office to pay pensioners.
According to reports, two armed bandits held the Post Mistress and her staff at gunpoint shortly after 14:00 hrs on Monday, while demanding the keys to the cash vault.
The frightened staff complied and the men made off with a reported $7M.
The workers were made to lie on the floor throughout the ordeal; and the bandits made good their escape after taking the cash.
There are reports that workers had been warned about a planned robbery, and had passed on this information to the police.
