Eighteen year-old Terrence Madramootoo smashed a record breaking double century for Rose Hall Town Bakewell who crushed Silver Stars by a whopping 365 runs when play in the 2009 New Building Society second-division tournament continued in Berbice.
Playing at the Area ‘H’ ground on Sunday, the victory was the fourth straight win for the young Bakewell team and strengthened their aim to book a place in the quarter-final. Batting first on a wicket with a little moisture due to early morning rain, Rose Hall Town Bakewell reached an imposing 419-5 off their allotted 40 overs.
Madramootoo who was left unbeaten on 212 decorated with 15 sixes and 10 fours – received support from former national Under-15 player Clinton Pestano 60, West Indies female cricketer Shemaine Campbell who scored a quickfire 56* (5 fours & 1six) and Trevor Thomas 45.
Pestano and Thomas added 103 for the first wicket in 12 overs before Pestano was caught at long off trying to hit off spinner Suresh Gopie for his fourth six. Madramootoo and Campbell added a record unbroken stand of 240 for the 6th wicket off 22 overs. Bowling for Silver Star Daniel Lewis took 2-50.
In reply Silver Star was bundled out for 54 in 17 overs with the only batsmen reaching double figures being former Berbice Under-15 Jamal Jarvis 14 and Nicholas Cameron 12.
Ripping the heart out of the batting of the Stars were Campbell who returned with the ball to take 3-6, offspinner Lloydel Lewis 3-15 and Pestano 3-12.
Madramootoo’s knock broke the fifteen year old record of James Fraser for the highest second division score by a Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club player. Fraser had scored 140 versus Liverpool in 1994.
Madramootoo also broke the seventeen year-old record of Inderpaul Mohan for the most sixes in an innings for the club which was eight, Madramootoo’s record now stands at 15.
Madramootoo and the very impressive Campbell also rewrote the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club record books with their 6th wicket partnership of 240. Steve Cecil and Randolph Keseran had held the record for 15 years – a partnership of 163 achieved against Hampshire in 1994.
