Today has been designated International Day for Persons living with disabilities and to observe that day the collaborative effort of both the Disabled People Network and the Community-based Rehabilitation Group, in Region Two will host what they referred to as an Awareness March, on December 5, to mark the occasion.
The march will commence from Middlesex to Supenaam on the Essequibo Coast.
The theme that the local body has adopted is called “empowerment of persons living with disabilities and their communities around Guyana.’’
President of the Region Two Community-based Rehabilitation, Lloyd Griffith, said that although they were disappointed in the numbers, the committee had hosted similar marches last year.
He said that he is hopeful that both persons living with and without a disability will use the opportunity and participate fully.
Mr. Griffith said that one of the main objectives of the march is to highlight young people living with a disability and not being able to integrate into the school system, easily.
