An evening accident on the West Coast Demerara (WCD) at the junction of the Demerara Harbour Bridge left a car PLL 2330 almost wrapped around a lamppost and the driver hospitalized at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Some eyewitnesses said that when the car crashed into the post they were surprised the man was still alive.
Another eyewitness said the Toyota car flipped over three times before crashing into the lamppost.
Another car that had the right away belonged to Chris Charran PJJ 6103 of Vreed en Hoop, was said to be heading towards Vreed en Hoop when the Toyota AT 192, PLL 2330, heading in the opposite direction in a reckless manner, slammed into the Charran’s car. That too was severely damaged.
Chris Charran is in police custody and does not appear to be seriously injured, but shocked at what happened.
Chris Charran said the man was overtaking other vehicles on the West Bank Demerara public road when he crashed head on into his vehicle.
A short while earlier, a sergeant of police stationed at the Vreed- en- Hoop Police Station, Sgt Perrieira, said that she was standing on the roadway when the speeding car caused her to run for cover. At the time she was standing at the Vreed- en- Hoop junction.

While he was attending to his order he said that his car keys were left behind on a table.
He further said that before he knew it, his car was gone. “I didn’t even hear the car start.” The person accused of stealing the vehicle is said to be a policeman.
Present at the scene of the crash were many spectators who were curious about what had transpired.
According to police sources the hospitalized driver of the stolen vehicle is a policeman stationed at Parika Police Station, East Bank Essequibo.
