– attacker seen at GPHC
Dexter Mc Donald, called ‘Bat’, is critical and fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), even as relatives are concerned about his safety there. Mc Donald, 33, of Bent Street, Wortmanville, was shot in the abdomen last Sunday in Princes Street, Wortmanville, by one of three men on bicycles.
Relatives are sure that they saw one of the men who was a part of the bicycle trio, at the hospital. According to the relative, she was able to identify the man by the clothes he wore on the night of the incident and by his height.
She said that the man was there to harm Mc Donald, since he had recognised them. The woman added that their suspicions were further confirmed after the man was seen following them around the hospital while speaking to someone on his cell phone.
What crowned it for the relatives was when they sought an update on McDonald’s condition from the doctor and was told that it was serious and that he (doctor) was not sure that the shot man would live.
This prognosis brought loud wailing from family members gathered at the hospital that night. It was at this point that relatives alleged that the man who was following them could be heard a short distance away telling someone on his cell phone, “he dead” and hurriedly left.
McDonald sustained severe internal injuries. His lung, liver and a small portion of his kidney were damaged by the gunshot.
Yesterday, the relatives said that although McDonald is not out of danger just yet, his condition has improved. An oxygen machine that was used to assist him to breath was removed and he is now breathing on his own.
Last Sunday night, three men on bicycles attacked two family members of Mc Donald’s fiancée, relieving a woman of her gold chain and $5,000.
According to the relatives, Mc Donald and a nephew of his fiancée saw what had transpired and were going to their aid.
According to reports, the nephew who recognised one of the robbers since he was robbed of his cell phone and wages a week ago by one of the men, armed himself with a cutlass and was approaching the three when the shot was fired.
The shot which was intended for the nephew struck Mc Donald.
Relatives said that the area is at the mercy of a group of young men who constantly rob persons from the area. They say that the men, who would normally pounce on females, are now upping the ante.
They said that almost every night somebody is robbed in the area, and to compound matters the area is pitch black at nights. No one has been arrested for McDonald’s shooting.
