When Andre Creary walk out to spin the toss at the opening match of next year’s ICC Youth World Cup in New Zealand the pugnacious middle order batsman will join compatriots Marlon Tucker, Gareth Breese and Brenton Parchment as Jamaicans who had the distinguish privilege of leading the West Indies at the under-19 level.
Tucker was the first man from Reggae Country to wear the Captaincy armband for the Region at the under-19 level.
He was at the helm when the West Indies youths humbled young England in a three test series January 1980 in the Caribbean.
Gareth Breese emulated Tucker when young West Indies won a historical three test series in Pakistan (1995) whilst Parchment was the man in charge when young West Indies toured the United Kingdom July 2001.
Creary will also become the first Jamaican to captain the West Indies at the ICC Youth World Cup and he will join the following players:
