…As Titan host successful Grass Track Meet
Andrew Rajkarran leads Charlie Henry and Andrew Wong around the final turn in one of the professional 12-lap races in the Titan Ent. Grass track Series.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of Essequibians turned out Sunday afternoon to witness what became a thrilling set of Dirt Bike Grass Track Racing at the Kayman Sankar Ground in the initial meet of the Titan Entertainment Series.
Hampton Court became a hive of activity as Andrew Rajkarran and Junior Da Silva were the centre of attention in the professional and novices categories respectively. There was absolutely no doubt that the event was a success.
Rajkarran used his experience in the Professional races to ride off with three wins among two other podium finishes that gave him the Champion Rider Award. Da Silva received a similar recognition from host Titan Entertainment.
Rajkarran rode away from Charles Henry and Bobby Rasool in the first race of the day to set his bike on course for the Series’ top honor. He won the second Professional race with Henry second and Andy Wong finishing third.
Da Silva finished ahead of Peter Tulsie and Vickash Rajkumar in his first Novices contest then turned on Rajkumar and Raj Rajkarran in his second event. The order of that second race continued in the seventh for Da Silva’s third win.
Andrew Rajkarran joined DaSilva with three wins when he knocked off Henry and Wong in the third Professional race. However, Wong had his moment of glory when he won the featured Open race, which was the last of the day.
Wong, Henry and Rajkarran had separated themselves from the rest of the pack early in a sure battle for the top rider of the day though Rajkarran had already placed his name high on the list of contenders for the premier accolade.
Rajkarran used his bike well in this 15-lap event before a few mechanical problems were discovered and fell behind the pace. Wong surged forward with Henry behind him as the consistent Rajkarran just rode within his limitations.
Henry and Wong gave a packed facility something to cheer about with their breathtaking antics on the turns as they battled each other for the top podium place. It was the final and most thrilling race of a day filled with excitement.
“It was a good day for me. I have to give my boys (mechanic and team) the credit for this performance. All the best riders in Guyana were not here so I am not going to call myself the best yet,” Rajkarran told Kaieteur Sport afterward.
Stephen Vieira, who was down to compete on Sunday, along with Vassy Barry and Dave Gangadin were absent from the first meeting of the series. They are highly rated as some of Guyana’s leading Grass Track racers.
“When all these riders come together then I guess it would be really competitive and then I can rate myself. It was competitive with Henry and Wong but I guess they had some of the mechanical problems bikes give,” Rajkarran observed.
The second race meeting of the Titan Entertainment Series is scheduled for December 20 in Berbice. The Champion Overall Rider from the Series will be crowned in 2010 when the Entertainment Company stages the Grand Finale.
