– Tourney concludes next week
Just two more playing days are left in the Mayor Green birthday 7-a-side football tournament being played at the Tucville ground.
Play is set for this Friday when the final set of knockout games to determine the quarter-finalists will be contested. The action in the 20 minutes games kick off at 6:00pm Friday with Crane vs. Uitvlugt and is followed at half an hour intervals by Uprising vs. Black Pearl, Alpha vs. Rich Boys, GDF vs. Seawall, Riddim Squad vs. Victoria Kings, Conquerors vs. YMCA, Western Tigers vs. Kitty Rangers and Pele vs. Flamingo.
The winners advance to the quarter-finals, while the respective winners play the semi-finals and grand finale next Friday December 11.
Mayor Hamilton Green will be present at the final and hand over the championship trophy and $300,000 to the winner.
However, this Friday’s action promises much excitement as several of the country’s leading teams will be in action.
Alpha fresh from their GFF Super League triumph will look to maintain their impressive run and move forward to the quarters when they play Rich Boys. Led by Howard Lowe, they possess a wealth of talent including Andrew Murray Jnr., Shawn Bishop and Dwight Peters among others. GDF with Stellon David, Warren Gilkes and Royan Morrison will also feature. Home team Conquerors, Western Tigers led by ‘The Tormentor’ Devon Millington and Pele, fresh from a successful trip to Lethem, are not to be taken lightly. Pele, the defending Kashif and Shanghai champs, have the fire power to challenge and with the likes of goalie Shemroy Arthur, Dirk Archer, Konata Manning, Gerald Wittington and possibly Gregory Richardson in the fray, they can go all the way.
Whichever way the chips fall an interesting and exciting two nights of football is promised and fans are in for a treat in this shorter version of the game.
