Culley leads 10-man Police to win against DCC
The indisciplined attitude of Guyana’s young cricketers continues to mar the game locally and commitment to team is slowing becoming something of the past for many young cricketers in the West Indies.
On Saturday at the Police ground, National under-19 left-arm fast bowler Andre Stoll left his team to field with 10 men against DCC because he could not get the end he wanted to bowl from just 2 days before he goes into a National senior team training camp and his absence from the field should raise serious concerns about the general behavior of players.
Only recently a National player deliberately bowled leg-side wides to deny an opponent a century in a first division game while 2 players who had to bat for Lusignan in another first division game, failed to show up on the last day with their team heading for an almost certain defeat. In the past such behavior would have been dealt with swiftly but now even clubs and cricket boards show very little interest in standing up for what is right as was the case when the Guyana Cricket Board officials allowed the cricketers to be kept off the ground by the Police resulting in the last day of a GCB senior 4-day match to be abandoned in sunny conditions to facilitate a primary school day of sports. On Saturday at Eve Leary, DCC made 185-9 in their Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Busta 20/20 2nd match against a 10-man Police team as Troy Nurse (49), Denver Greaves (41) and Dennis Squires (33) batted well.
Fitzroy Culley took 3-36, Orin Heyliger 2-21 and Vishal Jaigobin 2-32 for the Cops who reached 187-8 in 18.3 overs with Culley leading the way with an attractive 64. Rawle Browne 42 and Jaigobin 23 supported Culley as Jermaine Horatio had 4-38 and Leroy Primo 2-29.
On Sunday at Malteenoes, GYO beat Police by 2 wickets after making 139-8 in 19.4 overs replying to the 137 all out in 19.3 overs made by the Lawmen.
Browne 36, Culley 26 and Cecil Adams 23 were the main scorers for Police as Randy Samad 3-14 and Y. A. Persaud 3-21 bowled well for GYO.
Carl Bowen 28, Mick Goolsarran 32 and Vishal Gangaram 26 then batted GYO to victory as Culley (3-27) again bowled well and got good support from Linden Wilson who took 2-21.
