Cricket buffs were treated to several exciting matches when play in the Power Stout Tapeball tournament continued at the Banks DIH Thirst Park Ground over the past week. Subsequently, several teams registered wins in their respective matches and qualified for the next stage of the tournament being played under floodlights.
On Monday, Craig Old Road Stars XI defeated SSS Manufacturing X1 by 10 wickets after the latter team took first strike and scored 30-9 in 6 overs. Jason Heyliger took 2-6 from 2 overs and was the best bowler for the losers. In reply, Craig Old Road Stars made 35 without loss in 3 overs with the main contributor and eventual man of the match, Shafill Ishmael, lashing an unbeaten 27.
Also on that day, Kris “A”XI defeated Sunrise XI by 7 wickets after Sunrise XI batted first and scored 41-6 in 6 overs. Julius Williams top scored with an entertaining 21. His efforts were however insufficient as Kris “A” XI lashed off the required total in 3.4 overs to take the honours. Zamal Khan (13) was the best batsman for the winners while Romeo Henry (1-8 from 2 overs) was the top bowler.
There were also matches on Wednesday and in the first, Wales United XI defeated Bourda All Stars by 10 wickets. Bourda All Stars XI batted first and scored 48-8 in 6 overs with Timothy Gopaul hitting the most runs (16). Navendra Lillyah (3-6 from 2 overs) was the best bowler for Wales United. That team returned and lashed off the required total in 3 overs with eventual Man of the Match, Victor Ramnarine scoring 35 of those runs without conceding his wicket.
Supernova XI and Cambio XI engaged in fierce competition and both teams amassed 46 runs in their allotted overs with each team losing two wickets. In the end, the referees were required to employ rule # 17 that says teams batting second must overhaul the first team’s score to win the match. Supernova X1 eventually prevailed. Trophy Stall XI then crushed Igloo XI by 50 runs. The winners batted first and scored 128-4 in their 6 overs. Shaheed Gittens (57) was the principal scorer while Darwin Hesnia (1-9 from 2 overs) bowled the best for the losers. Igloo XI were limited to 78 – 9 in their 6 overs. Meanwhile, the matches continue today with the following fixtures: Kris “B” XI against Laluni SC, Gas XI opposes Dynas Bravados “B” Team, Movie Star plays Dynas Bravados “A” Team and Kishan XI battle Upsetters.
Team captains may uplift the fixtures from either Kurt Wilson (643-4618) or Leonard Harprashad (646-0568). Players dressed in short pants are restricted from the field while teams desirous of entering the tournament at this stage may contact the organizers. The tournament is sponsored by several corporate entities including beverage giants, Banks DIH Ltd, GNSC, Giftland Office Max, Rays Auto Spares and Trophy Stall.
