Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a middle-aged woman whose body was discovered at her Lot 232 Duncan Street home yesterday.
Eileen Fredericks, said to be in her mid-fifties, was found lying motionless in her bed by relatives who had gone to check on her after not seeing or hearing from her since Thursday.
The woman’s body bore no marks of violence but relatives are suspicious about her death since they claimed that she did not appear to be ill when they last saw her.
Fredericks lived alone in a two-storey house and no one reported hearing or seeing anything suspicious.
Neighbours were observed looking through their windows in disbelief when first the police then undertakers from the Lyken Funeral Home arrived at the scene. Some relatives who subsequently turned up broke down in tears without even seeing the body.
The presence of the lawmen and undertakers confirmed the dreaded news they had received.
The police are waiting on a post mortem examination to determine how the woman met her demise.
