Rebel United registered a comprehensive 5 wickets victory over Airy Hall Sports Club when play in the National Softball Cricket tournament continued during the past week. Airy Hall SC won the toss and batted scoring 189-8 in 15 overs. Sunil Bissoon hit a glorious century (124) laced with seven sixes and five fours to take the batting honours. Rebel United XI then aggressively cruised to 192-5 in 14 overs.
The top batsman was Yudeshwar Lall who lashed a century (103) that included four sixes and seven fours. Khemraj Dindial batted well but fell tantalizingly short of his half century (47) while Ram Sankar took the bowling honours with figures of 3-32 from 3 overs.
Airy Hall suffered a second loss in as many matches played on that day to Jaguars XI by a close margin of 2 runs. Jaguars XI were invited to take first strike and compiled 200-7 in their 15 overs. Rovin Ramnauth (52) and Prem Ramnauth (42) shone with the bat while Harripersaud took 2-40 from 3 overs. Sunil Bissoon (1-34 from 3 overs) was the next best bowler.
In reply, Airy Hall SC attacked the bowling and survived a stern test in the final over. Their effort dwindled to naught when they only managed 198 when their overs expired. Sunil Bissoon was again among the runs with a magnificent century (103) that included five sixes and three fours. Rovin Ramnauth was the best bowler with 3–30 from 3 overs. In the final match, Pomena Scheme defeated Affiance SC ‘B’ by 20 runs.
Meanwhile the tournament continues today with several exciting matches. In Zone ‘A’ Uitvlugt ‘B’ XI enjoy a home advantage against Ruimzeight XI, while at 12:00hrs Zeaburg Youths take on Uitvlugt CC ‘A.’ The other fixtures are Shattaville XI against Young Challengers SC while in Zone ‘B’ on the East Coast, Hitters XI tackle Gopaul Mandir XI. Hitters XI return later on to play Uprising XI while at 14.00hrs, Ogle U-17 SC plays village team Ogle U-19 XI.
Matches in the Linden zone commences at 09:00hrs with Victory 14 XI against Genesis XI while at 12.00hrs Uprising CC challenge Victory Valley Kings SC. Mighty Riders XI and Section ‘B’ Warriors XI then square off at 14:00hrs.
Over in Essequibo at the Reliance Ground Affiance SC ‘B’ play Reliance Warriors while at the Pomena Ground, Pomena Scheme SC will be at home in the encounter with Cullen SC. Matches continue on the Essequibo Coast with Jaguars XI opposing Young Rivals XI while Affiance SC ‘A’ play Airy Hall SC. Rebel United XI will play Die Hard XI while Renegade XI oppose Street Boys XI at the Providence Ground. At 12:00hrs Renegade XI returns to play Fledging XI.
