4R Company has sponsored a countrywide softball cricket tournament that will be organized by the Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Floodlight Association and will be played in two categories.
The Categories are male Over-40 which will be called the 4R Masters Cup and an Open female tournament. The competition will have cash incentives and trophies on offer. The winner of the male department will receive $50,000 plus a trophy and the runner-up will receive $20,000 and trophy plus there will be trophies for the man-of-the-match in the final as well a most valuable player of the tournament.
In the female category, the winner will receive $50,000 and a trophy, with the runner-up receiving $20,000 and trophy.
Several new innovations have been added to the tournament to bring it in line with the current international limited overs playing conditions. The Over-40 males will be a 25 over per side affair, while the females will be 15 over per side.
There will be a free hit for a front foot no ball and a super over will be employed in the case of a tie.
Entrance fee will be $5000 per male team and $2000 per female team.
The sponsor, Ricky Deonarain, in his remarks noted that with this type of tournament it will allow the older folks to lead a healthier lifestyle and also make friends around the country. The Guyana Softball League expressed thanks to the sponsor for coming on board with the organization and noted that tournaments of this type will go a long way in bringing people of various communities together and in addition roll back the years for those past players who have a lot to offer to the game.
The female category will ensure that the ladies play a part in the development and also showcase the talent of those who are committed.
It was also expressed that more business entities should come forward to sponsor tournaments that are bringing out the best of talent and also keeping the nation occupied in meaningful pastimes.
