Kala Utsav has been institutionalised in the annual calendar of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s, capturing Indian talent from across the country.
Kala Utsav is an annual event of songs, dances, music, Kirtan and chanting of Ramayan. Tomorrow, the spacious lawns of the Dharmic Sanskritik Kendra, Prashad Nagar, will be the venue for the occasion which commences at 10: 00 hrs and proceeds uninterrupted for five hours.
President Bharrat Jagdeo, who has always been the guest of honour at the Utsav, is scheduled to deliver the major address and present prizes. Hindi is no longer in the programme, but it does not mean that the Sabha has neglected or dropped the language, said Dr Vindhya Persaud, one of the main organisers.
In fact, she said a special conference will be held annually for the promotion of Hindi.
Kala Utsav features the very best of upcoming young artistes from across the country who will make their appearances following preliminaries which were held countrywide.
Dharmic Nritya Sangh which has been promoting classical and folk dancing has undisputedly made a magnificent contribution in raising the standards of dancing in Guyana.
Kala Utsav has produced some of the finest artistes drawn from every field who now spread not only across Guyana but in North America. There is hardly a function where a Kala Utsav graduate is not present.
“Kala Utsav has been with us for sixteen years and we can expect unparalleled performances of the youths who have always displayed enthusiasm and high spirit during their performance,” said Dr Persaud.
Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud, President of the Sabha, issued an early message to the participants, highlighting that Kala Utsav is a key festival on the Dharmic Sabha’s calendar and something which the organisation takes pride in promoting.
“It has proven to be an excellent feature and has invoked unbelievable interest and support,” he said.
Pandit Persaud also pointed out that he is overwhelmed by the fine work of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, particularly the Sabha’s contribution to the development of Indian music and art forms which have made a magnificent impact on young people and reflect in their unreserved participation in Kala Utsav.
Kala Utsav is open to the public and admission is free.
