Former Berbice middle order batsman Eon Abel slammed a pugnacious century to help defending champions D’Edward to a 7-wicket win over No. 2 in latest action in the New Building Society (NBS) Second Division 40-Over cricket Competition in Berbice.
After No. 2 had scored 167 in 38 overs and D’Edward, in reply lost their first wicket at 16, Abel joined Ryan Sutherland to add 97 runs in 14.4 overs for the second wicket before Sutherland fell for 19. Jaipaul Heeralall and Abel then put together 39 in just 9 balls before Abel went for 109 which included 4 fours and 12 sixes before Heeralall and Derick Lalsa Snr saw D’Edward home.
In another match, Seawell bowlers, medium pacer Amit Ramroop and Aslam Ally took 5 wickets each to bowl out Gangaram Strykers for 83. Seawell went on to win by 5 wickets.
Other bowlers taking five wickets a piece were Andel De Jonge of Tucber Park, Shameen Ahmad of Fyrish Road, Dilip Rengasammy of Tamran Root and Jaipersaud Rawana of Tain.
Half centuries were scored by Adrian Haralsingh of Young and Restless, Omesh Mangal of D’Edward Blazers, Phillip Willborough of Sisters, former Berbice 20/20 wicketkeeper/batsman Shastri Persaud of Chesney, Shazam Mohamed of Fyrish, Devendra Baichan of Albion and Kumar Nandalall of Jai Hind.

At Courtland, Fyrish Road beat No. 1 Road by 25 runs. Fyrish Road 111 in 21.1 overs with Imran Hussain 28, James Johnson 3 for 14, Elroy Henry 3 for 29. No. 1 Road, 86 in 18 overs with Shameen Ahmad 5 for 34. Chunilall Harrilall 4 for 23.
