Police have detained a woman and her daughter for questioning into the brutal murder of popular local actor Joel Fraser called ‘Sweets’.
The woman and her daughter were detained last night, after they gave conflicting accounts of her association with the murdered actor.
Fraser was found with his throat slit on the Liliendaal Seawall, aback of the Ocean View International Hotel early Wednesday morning.
According to a source, detectives had also questioned a taxi driver who indicated that he frequently dropped the woman and her daughter home after she was finished selling in the Bourda Market.
The taxi driver said that Fraser would normally hitch a ride with them and would come off near the Ocean View International Hotel.
He said that the last time this happened was on Monday night, when he stopped off at the location with a bag of greens.
According to the taxi driver, on Tuesday night he did not see Fraser or the market vendor.
A statement was taken from him and he was subsequently released.
When police contacted the woman she reportedly contradicted the taxi driver’s story. She told investigators that she had the same arrangement with the taxi driver on Tuesday night and had dropped off Fraser at the usual point at Liliendaal.
Police decided to detain her on the grounds that she may not be telling the truth.
The lawmen believe that Fraser visited another female at the Liliendaal location and they are now looking for that woman.
Investigators had questioned several persons including Maria Benschop, the producer of a comedy show in which Fraser was integrally involved.
Police are also seeking to question another female market vendor with whom Fraser had a previous relationship.
The woman had told this newspaper via telephone that she and Fraser had ended their relationship almost two years ago although he did visit her stall from time to time recently.
Investigators are trying to piece together the evidence gathered so far with the hope of coming up with a motive for the actor’s death which they believe will provide some clue as to who is his killer.
