Cops check family members for traces of gunpowder

Forensic tests are being conducted on samples from the hands and clothing of persons who were at a Mahdia house last Tuesday when a five-year-old boy allegedly shot his baby sister dead.
Police officials said that they are checking for traces of gunpowder residue to ascertain whether someone else fired the fatal shot.
Kaieteur News was told that swabs were taken from the child’s parents and their five-year-old son
Meanwhile, police sources said that the parents, their son and a female relative were brought to Georgetown yesterday for further questioning.
Eleven-month-old Clemona Patterson was killed instantly when the bullet from a .38 revolver struck her at point blank range in the head.
The children’s father claimed that he had found the weapon near a mining camp and was taking it to the police. However, he made a stop home and left the weapon on a table. The miner and his wife then reportedly went downstairs.
It is alleged that the five-year-old picked up the weapon which had one live round. He then pulled the trigger, shooting his baby sister in the head.
The miner has reportedly alleged that he was outside the house when the incident occurred.
Kaieteur News was told that police had received reports that the five-year-old, who attends a primary school in the community, was found with a live round by teachers sometime last week.
