‘Rock Solid’ are the first words that come to mind when describing the game of GCC and Guyana’s national defender Dwayne Scott.
Scott is a dynamo who seems to inhabit every corner of the court all at once in his relentless pursuit of recovering possession of the hockey ball.
With tremendous speed and remarkable power to match, Scott has the capability to impose his presence on a hockey match, destroying the best of opposing attacks.
Although known for his air-tight defence, Scott could be equally effective in offense as he is a true master of the counterattack, earning himself the top-scorer accolade at the recent GT&T National Indoor Championships.
When his team requires, Scott could move up to a striking position with equal efficacy and in fact has mastered any position on the field and is one of the primary reasons that his club side has managed to stay at the top of the game locally and in the region.
After a brief stint on the junior national team Scott was one the players who fell victim to Guyana’s absence from the international arena.
His senior outdoor hockey debut at the Caribbean Cup in 2007, however, provided him the opportunity to exhibit his tremendous ability and earned the respect of the region as he helped guide Guyana to a bronze medal.
Upon completion of the tournament Scott was one of two Guyanese to be selected on the Caribbean All-star team.
He is one of those athletes who excels in any game that he chooses and is also a powerful volleyball and football player. He is sure to make a noticeable impact on the upcoming Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival whenever he takes the floor in his royal blue GCC colours.
