Six amateur boxers have been nominated for a three month training stint to Cuba. Several amateur coaches, in keeping with a mandate of the President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), K A Juman Yassin, convened at the Forgotten Youth Foundation over the past weekend to make the selections. The coaches were responding to a directive issued by the GOA President to identify the squad for the training, scheduled to commence early next year for a period of six months.
President (ag) of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), Eustace Cuffy was among the selection committee that also consisted of coaches Sebert Blake, Terrence Poole, Carl Franklyn, James Walcott and Evan Parris.
The boxers identified are Orlando Allicock (junior/flyweight), Dexter Jordon (Flyweight), Delon Allicock (bantamweight), Clevon Rock (lightweight), Bert Braithwaite (junior welterweight) and welterweight Devon Boatswain.
Mr. Cuffy subsequently promised to submit the names to Mr. Yassin for perusal and subsequent approval.
