President of the Guyana Football Federation Colin Klass has described the just concluded FIFA Referees Assistant Programme which focused on the training of Referees, Instructors and Assessors as the dawning of a new era in the sport.
The Historic Workshop, the first of its kind in the world to have all three components included, was conducted by a high profile trio of FIFA experienced Instructors – Referee Fitness Instructor and FIFA FUTURO 111 Instructor Merere Louis Gonzales, Referee Development Officer Ramesh Ramdan both of Trinidad and Tobago and Referee Instructor – Peter Prendergast of Jamaica. It ended at the National Library, yesterday.
In closing remarks following the third and final aspect of the programme for Assessors held over two days following the one day Instructors forum, Klass, also a Vice President of the Caribbean Football Union stated that he will ensure that every available training opportunity is accessed by the GFF for its officials.
He reminded the officials that it is now time for them to vindicate the level of investment that has been made by lifting the standards and levels of their work.
The long serving administrator singled out FIFA President Sepp Blatter and FIFA Vice President and CONCACAF President Austin ‘Jack’ Warner for the tremendous job they have been doing to lift and maintain high standards across the board noting that for the game to be on firm foundation, training is vital.
“That is why we have all that we are having and I would ensure that as president of the GFF that everything that is available is made accessible to you. But if you fail to utilise the information and exposure to the fullest, then I would have a problem. That would be a serious indictment on yourself and football.”
Klass stated that all the necessary tools to excel would be made available and is looking forward to more effectiveness on and off the field.
The participants were challenged to take every game seriously by aiming to be consistently of a high standard and not only aim for high standards when they have FIFA appointments. They were urged to make every game a World Cup final. The participants were complimented for making themselves available for the workshop and being present throughout.
Klass noted that the programme was arranged by himself and the FIFA Referee Development Officer Ramesh Ramdan for the development of Referees in Guyana and not for any specific tournament.
Already, the parties are discussing a follow up to this programme and encouraged the beneficiaries to practice and implement what they would have learnt.
President of the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC) Alfred King noted that he was very happy with the programme and that refereeing is much richer as regards its human resource following this historic three-phase workshop.
While commending the efforts of the GFF for arranging the workshop, King challenged the officials to be committed to the cause of lifting and maintaining standards. King also stated that the GFRC has big plans for the continued exposure of referees in Guyana while thanking the facilitators for doing a splendid job over the past seven days.
