Meusa, Bryan one win away from premier title
Forehand Connection’s Paul Meusa and Nigel Bryan are one win away from the Kenneth DeAbreu Table Tennis’ League (KDTTL) premier title in Division ‘A’ for the Senior and Advanced players in the Grande Finale today.
The introductory Kenneth DeAbreu-sponsored Guyana Table Tennis Association League went on for seven weeks at the Malteenoes Sports Club, and over that period, Forehand Connection amassed an unblemished record.
Meusa and Bryan are sitting healthily on top the table in the Division with four wins from their allotted games with no defeats and one match to play. Spartans’ Hewley Griffith and Joel Alleyne are the only threatening pair for them.
Spartans will enter today’s final playoff second in the group with their statistics reading a dangerous two wins, one loss and two matches remaining. Forehand Connection could be in a precarious position if they lose their last match.
National junior racquet wielder, Bryan and his former national teammate,
Meusa have an enviable task of preventing a last hurdle stumble, which will affect their points’ aggregate in the leading group of the round-robin League.
Smiley Faces’ Natalie Cummings and Remy Taitt are third in the group with one win and two defeats. The team has two matches to play and cannot be counted out from one of the top three places in the group because of those figures.
Forehand Connection is the only team certain of finishing in the top three. Samuel Fraser, Dwayne Gibson and Warren Hackshaw are fourth with zero wins; two loses with three of the final round matches to play this afternoon.
Nigel Supermarket’s Christopher Franklin, Jamaal Duff and Joseph Johnson are yet to get a win from three matches; they have two remaining with Halex’s Xen Goliah and Morton Blake at the bottom with one loss from as much games.
National Table Tennis Coach, Linden Johnson told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that some of the representatives of the national association and sponsors will present the prizes and the certificates to respective awardees following the finale.
The winners along with further places in Division ‘B’ for Advanced Players; Division ‘C’ for Intermediate Players and Division ‘E’ for Semi-Intermediate Players were decided in the penultimate fixture last weekend at Malteenoes.
