For International Education Week…
The United States Embassy in Georgetown has reached out to a number of secondary schools in Guyana as they observed International Educational Week (IEW), last week.
The outreach saw embassy personnel sharing information on studying in the United States with more than 1,000 students.
The schools visited included St. Stanislaus College, St. Rose’s High School, St. Joseph’s High School, The Bishops’ High School, The New Guyana School, Queen’s College, School of the Nations, Berbice High School and New Amsterdam Multilateral School.
A press statement from the U.S embassy noted that members from the Embassy team fielded questions from the students and presented educational materials at the end of each session.
It was noted that International Education Week offers an opportunity to celebrate international educational exchange and its positive impact on the United States and the world, the embassy staffers said.
The initiative highlights the benefits of studying abroad for Americans and seeks to attract international students to study in the United States and gain a better understanding of its society and values.
“The initiative also provides an opportunity to emphasize the role of education in American society, as well as the importance of understanding other countries,” the statement emphasized.
Last March, United States President Barack Obama spoke about the importance of educational exchanges as a means to promote mutual understanding and respect.
“International Education Week gives us all an opportunity to answer the President’s call to demonstrate the benefits of exchanges.
