Dear Editor,
I call on the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to immediately investigate the alleged unsportsmanlike conduct that took place during the 1st division match between New Line Cavaliers and the Demerara Cricket Club which concluded last weekend at the DCC Ground.
If the allegations are true, the game would have been brought into disrepute. It is the responsibility of the GCB to take strong and condign action against any player or players, who are found to be guilty of bringing dishonour to local cricket.
If the charges of unsportsmanlike conduct are substantiated, then the GCB should institute harsh sanctions, including banning the guilty players, regardless of their stature and previous record, from representing Guyana in the near future. But first there must be a full investigation which will signal that the Board is not going to take any indiscretions lightly.
Cricket has always been known as a “gentleman’s game” and the charges which have been made as regards this recent match are serious to warrant a full-fledged investigation.
