Guyana’s Inter County Final was once classified as first class matches the status started in 1972 and was relinquished in 1990, but before Guyana’s Premiere County Championship list its first class status several young and enthusiastic fast bowlers joined the first class ranks either for Demerara, Berbice or Essequibo but failed to gain the coveted senior national cap.
The first was G.C.C Eion Grant who played two first class matches for Demerara against Berbice 1977 & 1978. His best is 2 for 47 at Bourda Jones Cup Final 1977.
Keith Maxwell had two matches also 1979 and 1982 both against Berbice, his best figures is 3 for 47 against Berbice Jones Cup Final 1982 at Albion.
Orin Gordon G.C.C like the above mention two played two first class matches for Demerara against Berbice 1981 and 1982. His best figures 4 for 58 vs Berbice Jones Cup Final at Bourda 1981. Essequibian Egbert Stephens played one first class match against Berbice at Hampton Court 1980 capturing 5 for 56 on debut Jones cup Final (1980).
Port Mourant’s David Fingal featured in two first matches for Berbice against Demerara in 1987 and 1989. His best figures 2 for 25 vs Demerara at Camp Ayanganna 1989. Strange enough Fingal was in the Guyana 13 man squad against the Windward and Leeward Islands 1989 whilst Gordon appeared in Guyana’s eleven for festival matches in 1983 St. Lucia and 1985 against New Zealand.
