Eight outstanding head teachers from schools on the Corentyne Coast were recognized for their outstanding contributions on Thursday last by the Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Pepsi Under-19 teams.
The teachers were honoured under the club’s tribute to outstanding teachers programme at the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Area ‘H’ office.
The head teachers honoured are Colin Bynoe – Port Mourant Secondary, Roseline Butcher – Port Mourant Primary, Zalimoon Khan – Rose Hall Town Nursery, Vijay Bhyro – Rose Hall Town Primary, Barbara Hamilton – J.C. Chandisingh Secondary, Manita Ramesh – Ankerville Nursery, Nirmala Somwaru Husain – Lower Corentyne Secondary and Yakshene Bheemal of Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary.
The programme was organized by the cricket teams under the personal development programme which seeks to prepare them for future leadership roles and was sponsored by Indra Jainarine of Tota West Indies Restaurant and Bakery and Brian Carpen’s Plumbing both located in Brooklyn, New York.
Secretary/CEO of the RTYSC Hilbert Foster told the awardees that the RHTY&SC was proud to honour them as they are the foundation of the educational system in the Corentyne Area and are responsible for molding the minds of thousands of youths, while noting that Head Teachers are usually bypassed at presentation ceremonies.
Foster praised the young cricketers for organizing the event to express gratitude to the teachers who have a combined teaching experience of over 180 years.
The secretary challenged the awardees to uphold the high traditions that have propelled them as positive role models to their students.
Colin Bynoe, head teacher of Port Mourant Secondary in a well received feature address, praised the RHTY&SC and the three cricket teams for recognizing the head teachers.
Bynoe noted that it is hearting to know that there are still youths today who have the passion to honour those responsible for the educational upbringing while stating that he and his fellow awardees felt inspired to do better in the future.
Loyden Lewis who played for the three cricket teams hailed all the awardees as role models of the highest standards and expressed gratitude to them for shaping the lives of thousands of youths.
He also expressed gratitude to Tota Restaurant and Bakery and Carpen’s Plumbing for their sponsorship of the programme which would now be held on an annual basis as part of the club’s Pro-Education and Tribute to Role Models Projects.
Each of the awardees received a Certificate of Achievement and a collection of gifts.
