Mon Repos registered a convincing 31 runs victory over Leonora to cart off the Seerja Construction Company Inter-Primary Schools Windball Cricket title which ended yesterday, at the Carifesta Sports Complex.
Taking first strike, Mon Repos posted a challenging 59-3 off the allotted 5 overs with Jaswant Murilall hitting a top-score of 35.
In reply, Leonora reached 28-5 when the overs expired. Only Ronaldo Persaud with 12 managed double figures.
Bisham Singh picked up 2-3.
In the playoff for third place, Grove defeated Monar Educational Institute (MEI) by 21 runs.
Grove batted first and compiled 78-3 with Ganesh Samaroo stroking 27 and Joel Dick adding 26. S. Cato grabbed two wickets.
MEI chasing 79 for victory, were restricted to 57-3 with Donald Europe making 25 and S. Cato 10. Samaroo took two wickets.
Earlier in semi-final action, Leonora beat MEI by 30 runs.
Leonora compiled 89-2 with Hemendra Gaul cracking 37 and Imraz Sattaur 15.
MEI in their turn at the crease could only muster 59-1. D. Europe top-scored with 25 and Akeem Sam 10.
Mon Repos than squeezed past Grove by a single run.
Mon Repos made 59-0. J. Murilall contributed 24.
Grove in reply, ended on 58-3 with G. Samaroo belting 31 and Dextroy Williams 11.
Most Valuable Player of the Tournament was J. Dick.
Fourteen schools participated in the competition and they were drawn from Regions 3,4 and 5 and was organised by Sports Officer Allister Munroe.
Meanwhile, sponsor Bholanauth Ramraj speaking after the presentation ceremony pledged his continued support towards the championships which saw the Girls segment concluded last week.
“When I watch wide cross section of participation which includes all the races it encourages me even further to continue my association with the tournament,” Ramraj said.
Ramraj, who has been sponsoring the championships for over five years, told the students that the occasion was just the first step in what could evolve into a bright career in the sport. “This is just a stepping stone in what could become a career for any of you and I want to encourage all of you to play hard, but not to neglect your school work,” Ramraj told the students.
Ramraj also recognised the eagerness of the players, who according to him since they reach the venue was bubbling with excitement and rearing to get into battle.
He promised to make it an even bigger programme next year.
