Browne’s ton seals Police’s win
National Under-15 Skipper Shaquille Williams hit an unbeaten 57 before returning to take 4-21 to spur Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) to a comprehensive 46-run win against 3rd Class Association in latest action in the GCA Busta 20/20 2nd division cricket competition.
The right-handed Williams hit 6 fours and a six in his entertaining half-century and got support from Delvon McEwen (39) and 25 from Vishal Narayan as MSC made 175-5 off their allotted 20 overs at the Guyana Defence Force ground.
The off-spinner the grabbed 4-21 from his 4 overs and got back up from Edwin Burnett (2-21) and Neil Barry Junior (2-46) as 3rd Class were bowled out for 129 in 20 overs to give the Thomas Lands combination victory.
At the Police ground, a magnificent 42-ball even century from Rawle Browne led Police to a 81-run victory against the University of Guyana (UG) as the younger brother of former Guyana players Barrington and Robin Browne continued his good form in Demerara’s cricket.
The right-handed Browne, who has been repeatedly overlooked by the Demerara selectors although he is among the leading scorers at the first division level in Georgetown, slammed 11 fours and 5 sixes and got support from Fitzroy Culley (33) as the Cops reached 198-6.
Jermaine Reynolds took 2-36 for UG who were bowled out for 117 with Vishal Jaigobin Shameer Fazal and Mervin Vyphuis taking 2 wickets each for the lawmen.
