Dear Editor,
I agree with Lurlene Nestor and Mayor Hamilton Green that Government instigated the blackout of the Capital City, and opine that the motive behind this was two fold.
(1) The venting of vindictiveness and spitefulness fitting the pattern of the PPP regime’s interaction and reaction to any part of the country where the majority of constituents overwhelmingly support the opposition.
(2) A distraction in face of the myriad of issues that associate the current regime with actions and behaviours that represent the worse we have experienced from regimes in this hemisphere.
You give power to a political group of people whose social and intellectual growth is retarded by their antipathetic prejudices and arrogance, and you will always have scenarios similar to what is being played out today with the City of Georgetown.
The actions of a regime that conditions the well being and welfare of a community with one of their institutions extracting financial penance from the political organisation the majority of people in that community support, has to be the most dastardly and mean spirited behaviour of our world experienced.
As Lurlene Nestor eloquently pointed out, neither the Republican President, George Bush, nor the Democratic President, Barack Obama made such linkages when they were doling out federal help to financial institutions that had failed. Neither do they make those linkages when they are asked to come in and bail out a municipality or a state, regardless of the electoral preferences of the voters.
Based on the withdrawal of ads from the SN, the withdrawal of subventions from Critchlow Labour College, the bottom feeding attacks on journalists and news media that assume the constitutional right and freedom to speak truth to unethical, corrupt and dictatorial power, the PPP regime has demonstrated that it cannot be trusted with the interests of those outside of its controlling electoral perimeter.
We expect these kinds of spiteful and vindictive behaviours from kids who have not cognitively developed the capacity for sound abstract analysis and formulations. However, in Guyana it obviously inundates the psychology of the politically governing body.
Welcome to ‘hell’ Guyanese.
