Nets trap Colours Panthers
Courts Pacesetters easily advanced to the next round with a comfortable win over the new addition, East/West Fire when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) season opened at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Pacesetters took control of the game early and showed clear superiority with a 77-55 win that placed them in the next round against the winner of Tuesday night’s showdown with Bounty Colts taking on Beepat’s Scorpions.
Former junior national players, guards Travis Burnett and Aubrey Smith scored 10 points each in the game for Pacesetters while senior club campaigner, Clement Brusche also had 10 with Hugh Arthur adding eight in support.
Warren Oudkerk scored 20 points for East/West-a team that was added to the fray of First Division clubs in Georgetown. Jason Cort had 13 points with Kester Gomes, who formed the team, adding 10 points on their way out.
The GABA’s First and Third Division Knockout Tournaments were launched Wednesday at their Garnett Street office. Lens Craft, HJTV, Windjammer International and Facts and Roses are official sponsors of the inaugural event.
Nets trapped number two ranked Third Division club, Colours Panthers in the preceding game to win 52-43 and advance to the following round. Mortimer Robertson finished 16 points for Nets wile Jamaal Thompson scored nine.
Kadeem Rose scored 11 points in the game for them as Kasi Wittington added seven for the losing team. The competition continues tonight with a triple header when Sonics take on Guyana Defence Force in the first game from 6pm.
Ravens will battle number nine raked, Eagles in the second game while Colours Panthers’ First Division team comes up against Nets in the featured game. The contest will decide the seeding for the 2009/10 Season in Georgetown.
