By Sean Devers
Harrilall Kissoon of Trinidad & Tobago and Guyanese Ganesh Singh were appointed Directors of the West Indies Cricket Council for the Blind (WICCB) when the Regional body held its executive meeting in Barbados on Thursday November 12.
It was also confirmed at that meeting that the next Regional Blind Cricket Competition will be held in Barbados.
This competition should have been hosted by the Windward Islands but because of financial constraints that territory declined the offer.
Barbados which was due to host in 2011, accepted to host the tournament from June 5-14. All teams are expected to arrive in Barbados on June 3 and 4 June.
The Australia Blind Cricket Team will also be in Barbados at the same time and will be playing Twenty20 matches against each of the Caribbean Countries on the days those countries draws the bye.
The Aussies will also play three matches against the selected West Indies Blind Cricket Team which will be selected after the Regional Competition.
According to WICCB Treasurer Guyanese Theresa Pemberton, everything is already in place in Barbados for the Australian tour and the regional tournament and added that the Aussies will be funding the cost for their meals and airfare with the WICCB standing the cost for their transportation in Barbados.
The Australia team will be accommodated at the Time Out hotel in Barbados while the regional teams will stay at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus.
“Barbados is very supportive of Blind cricket and they are working very hard to get everything in place for the cricket in June and the WICCB is confident that a fantastic competition will be delivered,” Pemberton said.
Bajan Clevdon Mayers is the President, Anthony Avril from the Windward Islands is the Vice-President, Bhawani Persaud of Trinidad and Tobago the Secretary, Emily Lynch of Barbados is the Assistant Secretary/Treasurer and Toussaint Gardner the PRO.
Former West Indies female cricketer, Jamaican Vivian Latty-Scott takes over from Guyana’s Barath Mangru as Cricket Development Officer.
