Dear Editor,
For too long the staff at Queen’s college had to put up with the nonsense being perpetuated by the Board of Governors and most recent the Minister of Education.
Prior to the reappointment of the Retired Deputy Principal as Temporary Deputy Principal by the Minister of Education (a position that does not exist,) the staff has to deal with the deliberate efforts of the Board to undermine the Principal to render her incompetent.
There are seldom staff meetings with the Board and whenever this is done, it is hurried and you are made to shut up by the Board Chairman who feels he is still running the Police Force.
Further, there is a defunct PTA Body. PTA meetings have not been held for a while now and the teachers are prepared to sit in until all matters are resolved.
It is time to restore the education system to what it should be and to desist from playing politics. Keep politics where it belongs.
Some teachers have been appointed by the Board of Governors since last year January only to be told that their appointments will take effect from September of this year.
There are also teachers who have been employed by the Board of Governors since 2007 and they were told that they have to accept appointments from January 2009 thereby reducing their years of services and monetary benefits.
There are also retired teachers who have been rehired and given senior responsibilities at the College.
Some teachers feel that precedents have been set for the most recent development. The teachers say they can no longer call on the Minister of Education to deal with the issue since he has now become part and parcel of the corruption. They are calling on the President, Bharrat Jagdeo to look into these matters.
