Football buffs are in for a real treat when action in the Mayor’s birth anniversary football tournament, organized by Lennox Arthur, in collaboration with the Mayor, Hamilton Green continues at the Tucville Ground tonight.
Several top teams are evenly matched and would all be vying for a quarter finals place when they contest against each other. Among the matches expected to provide entertainment are YMCA against Beavers, Flamingos playing Uitvlugt, BV and Triumph will match skills while Western Tigers and Beavers engage each other.
In other matches, Pele takes on Houston Stars while Conquerors and Den Amstel collide in a highly anticipated thriller. B V Triumph then tackles Kitty Rangers while Flamingoes return to oppose Agricola. In the final match for the night, YMCA returns for their second match against Grove Hi Tec.
Meanwhile several teams are bunched together on 6 points each including Uprising FC, Alpha United, Riddim Squad and Rich Boys FC. Five other teams are on 4 points including Golden Grove, Seawall, Black Pearl, Agricola and Uitvlugt. The other teams are on 3 points apiece while the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) has only managed to register 2 points.
Already, the tournament has attracted a large following and football buffs have been treated to several spectacular matches earlier in the tournament. The organizers have promised the same level of action as witnessed in earlier games. Kick off time is 19:00hrs.
