The second round of the Berbice Zone of the 2009 Guyana Cricket Board First Division 3-Day cricket Competition concluded last weekend with young warriors, Scottsburg United, Edinburgh, West Berbice and Port Mourant registering victories.
At Cumberland, Young Warriors beat Police by 7 wickets. Police resumed at their over week second innings score of 131-4 after losing first innings by 26 runs with Albert Sinclair on 70 not out and Jerry Heyliger unbeaten 19.
They added a further 26 before Heyliger fell for 31. Sinclair registered his first century 133 (14 fours and 1 six) to help Police reach 239 all out. Former Guyana Under-19 player Kellon Henry clipped in with 21. Bowling for Young Warriors former Berbice cricketer Maxie de Jonge bowling medium pace took 4 for 17 and former Berbice Under-19 wicketkeeper/batsman Ishwar Singh 2 for 23 with his offspinners.
Set 214 to win, Young Warriors reached 215-3 with De Jorge leading the way
with 89, while Guyana under- 19 batsman Seon Hetmyer made 52 not out, Waheid Edwards 33 and Riaz Kassim 22. Off spinner Rocky Hutson took 2 for 46.

At Scottsburg, Scottsburg United beat Skeldon Community Centre by 176 runs. Skeldon resuming at their over week first innings score of 26-1 in response to Scottsburg’s 249, were bundled out for 77 with Nirshaw Khan making 22. Bowling for Scottsburg United, off-spinner Akram Razack took 4-7 and Guyana under- 19 all rounder Alex Amsterdam 2-26 with his off-spinners.
With a first innings lead of 176, Scottsburg United, batting a second time made 129 all out with Mark Lionel 32 and Amsterdam 25, Bowling for Skeldon left-arm spinner Nirshaw Khan took 7-36 to follow up his first innings 7-88 to give him a match haul of 14-124.
Skeldon Community Centre were set 302 to win in their 2nd innings but were bowled out for 125 with Khan (52) and Leonard Clarke (23) batting well. Bowling for Scottsburg United Mark Lionel took 4-4 and Amsterdam 3-46.

At Edinburgh, Edinburgh defeated Rose Hall Community Centre by 153 runs. Edinburgh declared at their over week second innings score of 322-9 leaving Rose Hall Community Centre 369 runs to win on the last day. They fell for 215 despite a fine 113 (15 fours and 2 sixes) from Vedesh Singh and 54 from former Guyana under- 15 cricketer Sanjay Khan.
This century from Singh follows scores of 88 and 32 in the first round and 70 in the first innings of this match, giving him a total of 303 runs from 2 matches.
Bowling for Edinburgh off spinner Ralph Chakalall took 4-53 and former Berbice under- 15 pacer Denny David 2-26.
Scores: Edinburgh 258 and 322 for 9 declared, Rose Hall Community Centre 212 and 215.

At Blairmont, West Berbice completed a 136 run victory over Blairmont Community Centre. Blairmont Community Centre, resumed their 2nd innings at their over week score of 94-4, still 192 runs short of victory, were bowled out for 149 with Wazir Subhan making 24.
Bowling for West Berbice, leg-spinner Andrew Dennis picked up 6-49 and off-spinner Dennis Webster 3-43.
Scores: West Berbice 216 and 192 for 5 declared, Blairmont Community Centre 123 and 149.

At Port Mourant, Port Mourant beat Albion Community Centre by 6 wickets; their first win over Albion in a three-day Competition in 18 years. Port Mourant resuming at their over week 2nd innings score of 56-2, still needing another 61 runs for the historic victory, lost former Guyana under- 19 batsman Moshin Peerkhan to national leg spinner Veerasammy Permaul at 71-3.
Berbice all-rounder Rajiv Ivan then joined Sameer Khan and together they did added 39 before Khan fell to Bishu for 13 at 110- 4. Ivan (31*) and Guyana middle order batsman Homchand (4*) saw Port Mourant home at 118-4. Bowling for Albion, Permaul took 3-64, following up his 5-83 in the first innings.
Scores: Albion Community Centre 147 and 215, Port Mourant 246 and 118 for 4.
Points: Port Mourant 12, Albion Community Centre 0.
The competition continues on Saturday with the start of the third round.
