Spartans’ Hewley Griffith and Joel Alleyne won the Kenneth DeAbreu and Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) League’s Senior and Advance Players’ title when the contest continued at Malteenoes Sports Club last weekend.
Spartans defeated Forehand Connection’s Paul Meusa and Nigel Bryan with Unstoppable (Warren Hacksaw and Dwayne Gibson) also falling against them in the three-way playoff for the Division “A” title of the inaugural League.
Griffith and Alleyne won against Nigel Supermarket’s Christopher Franklin, Denzel Duff and Joseph Johnson) in a match that went down to the wire 3-2. Nigel’s Supermarket had taken the Business Corporations’ title two weeks ago.
Forehand Connection beat Halex’s Xen Goliah and Morton Blake 3-0 while Unstoppable defeated Smiley Faces’ Natalie Cummings and Remy Griffith 3-1 in the other matches to determine the placing of the other teams in the group.
Meanwhile, Unstoppable looks indomitable in Division “B” for Advanced Players as they continue to lead with five wins. The team is yet to suffer a defeat and will play one match against Snipers in their final game in the category.
Smiley Faces finished with five wins and one loss; Halex with three wins and three losses and Bishops High with two wins and four defeats. Lil Champs and Out Laws will have to play each other to decide fifth and sixth places.
Dominators’ Chelsea Edghill and Priscilla Greaves defeated Top Spin’s Zane Rogers and Killon Tracey 3-1 to finish Division “E” for Intermediate Players with four wins with one defeat that places them to top of the category.
Top Spin came back to beat Turbo TT’s Sachin Panday and Brandon Gomes 3-2 to tie for third place in the group. They ended with three wins and two losses to tie with Turbo who also had similar statistics in the GTTA League.
Dragon Warriors are currently in second with three wins and one loss with one game left against KRS, who are yet to record a win in group. A likely win against KRS for Dragons will put them in the joint lead with Dominators.
The League continues at 4pm Saturday at the same venue.
