Maurice Fagundes out strides seasoned competitors, captures CS&TC 10K race walk

Veteran race walker, Rudolph Mitchell sustained an injury to his foot forcing him out of the walk race organized by the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) on Sunday November 15 last.
Another seasoned race walker, Maurice Fagundes took advantage of Mitchell’s absence and walked away with the top prize in that event leaving Debidyal Harold and Donna Ramkissoon in his wake. Those two ended up in the second and third positions, respectively.
Junior race walker, Ivelaw Charles romped home first in his category followed by Glayson Ralph and Dan Charles, in that order.
The race walkers competed for trophies and medals donated by Managing Director of Bacchus Mining Company, Royston Bacchus while the management of Tower Hotel provided water and other refreshments for the competitors.
Meanwhile, organizers have disclosed that plans for the CSTC’s International Last Lap Race Walk, scheduled for Sunday December 13, are well on stream. According to coordinator, Olga Harry, local race walkers will match steps with their counterparts from Barbados and Suriname if local organizers get their way.
She said that letters have already been dispatched to the relevant countries and they are currently awaiting responses. Added to the Caribbean entourage is another 4 race walkers from the USA. This group is affiliated of the Helen Warde Race Walk Foundation in that country. While here they will conduct sessions on the intricacies of the sports as well as deliver lectures.
The December 13 event commences at the Supply Primary School, EBD and proceeds to the Soesdyke Methodist Church for the culmination. Starting time is 06:30hrs sharp.
