Decomposed body fished out of reservoir

The decomposed body of Ahmad Khan, 52, of 23 Le Ressouvenir Railway Embankment East Coast Demerara, was fished out of an abandoned reservoir in his yard yesterday.

Neighbours said that they were getting a foul stench for some days now but thought it was a dead animal.
Some children in the neighbourhood who were playing close to the hole stumbled upon the corpse.
According to neighbours and relatives, the man who lives alone, was a heavy drinker. Bibi Shakir, a cousin of the dead man, said that the last time she saw him was last Saturday, “Me see he wid one bucket fish, an he say he bin a go out”.
Shakir related that the man’s wife walked out on their marriage with their two children due to Ahmad’s heavy imbibing. Persons who gathered at the scene opined that the man may have been intoxicated and drowned after falling into the reservoir on his way home. Ahmad worked for sometime as a cane cutter at the La Bonne Intention estate, before he left the job some two years ago. The man did odd jobs around the community to survive and sustain his habit.

Undertakers stand in proximity to the reservoir where the body was found

Ahmad, who lived on the bottom flat, shared the building with another man who lived upstairs with his son.
When Kaieteur News visited the scene, investigators were taking statements from neighbours and relatives.
