Up to press time yesterday the licensed firearm holder who shot and killed a suspected fowl thief was still in police custody.
Also a post mortem examination which was performed on the dead man’s remains showed that he died as a result of shock and hemorrhage due to a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The post mortem was done yesterday and the dead man has since been identified as 36- year-old Naresh Persaud. However, as investigations continue, sources close to the investigation said there is no likelihood of the man in police custody being charged.
Early Sunday morning, Persaud was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The man was shot and killed after he was caught in a man’s yard at Number 70 Village Corentyne.
Around 02:00 hour on Sunday, the shooter, who is a licensed firearm holder, was awakened by a noise in his yard. On venturing out he noticed a shadow near his chicken pen. The man then went for his weapon and discharged a round in the direction of the shadow. It was later discovered that Persaud was shot.
Persaud was no stranger to the area and he was said to be of unsound mind.
