MSC, GCC, GNIC register outright victories

West Bank Demerara side New Line Cavaliers (NLC) are 60 runs away from beating DCC in their own backyard in what would be a historic win for the West Bank Demerara side playing in their first ever 3-day first division game.
When the penultimate day of their 3-day Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Demerara zone match ended at DCC yesterday NLC, set 227 to win, were comfortably placed on 167-2 with National left-hander Gajanand Singh, who took a hat-trick with the ball, 39 away from his 3rd 3-day first division ton and first in Demerara cricket while fellow Berbician and former West Indies youth Captain Andre Percival was with him on 20.
The pair had joined forces when the pugnacious Andrew Lyght Jnr, who revived memories of his late father’s belligerence, was caught at long-off to teenage leg-spinner Omesh Dhaniram at 110-2.
The right-handed Lyght inflected a merciless pounding on bowlers from his ‘old team’ and 4 of his 8 sixes would have cleared any ground in the country as he also hit 3 fours in an explosive 78 from just 46 balls and when he was at the crease it seemed NLC were trying to win the match in the 29 overs they were allocated

The right-handed Lyght inflected a merciless pounding on bowlers from his ‘old team’ and 4 of his 8 sixes would have cleared any ground in the country as he also hit 3 fours in an explosive 78 from just 46 balls and when he was at the crease it seemed NLC were trying to win the match in the 29 overs they were allocated yesterday after DCC fell for 155 in their 2nd innings.
Scores: DCC (166& 155), NLC (98 & 167-2).
Lyght and former DCC player Coen Ismond (6) added 46 in 6 overs for the first wicket before Ismond threw his wicket away with an injudicious drive off left-arm spinner Totaram Bishoo to mid-on before Lyght, who reached his fifty with a gigantic 6 off Bishoo from 31 balls, also gave his hand away.
But the attractive Singh (who seemed lucky to survive a caught behind appeal off Gavin Nedd on 15 at 100-1) and the experienced Percival joined forces to see their team to the close and spark premature celebrations among the vocal West Demerara fans.
Earlier, National player Chris Barnwell (78) and Jamal Hinckson (33) were the only DCC batsmen to pass 15 as part-time off-spinner Singh removed Barnwell, Nedd and Utom Munroe in 3 balls to finish with 4-12. Former Berbice, Guyana and West Indies leg-spinner Mahendra followed up his 4 wicket haul in the 1st innings with 2-47, while former Berbice all-rounder Paul Wintz took 2-11 for a well-organized looking NLC team whose only blemish was their ‘Keeper (Maxwell Georgeson) wearing black pads in a National 3-day competition. The final day is set for Saturday.
At GCC,
the host beat Everest by 4 wickets despite a fine innings from Demerara ‘Keeper Joseph Perry who was left stranded 5 short of his maiden ton at this level.
Scores: Everest (187 & 299), GCC (344 & 139-6)
Everest, who resumed the day on 163-4, got good contributions from Perry who hit 6 fours and a 5 and fellow Demerara player Troy Gonsalves (85) as leg-spinner Ricardo Jadunauth took 5-132 and Chindanand Shivram 2-59 for GCC, who were led to victory by the in-form Waslim Haslim (62), Ravi Sarwan (29) and Jadunauth (22).
At Everest, GNIC crushed a depleted Transport Sports Club (TSC) by 253 runs after leg-spinner Ronale Bourne took his 2nd 5-wicket haul of the match and off-spinner Collis Butts took 3-50 to finish with 7 in the match.
Scores: GNIC (247 & 295-5 dec), TSC (98 & 191)
Set 444 to win on the final day, TSC resumed on 42-2 and only Steffon Sampson (38), Carl Rambarose (37) and Azeem Azeez (29) offered token resistance as Bourne bagged 5-93.
At Malteenoes, the home side beat Police by 10 wickets after easing the pressure on the Cops when victory by an innings seemed likely with the last pair at the crease.
Scores: Police (154 & 225), MSC (377-5 dec & 3-0)
Police began the final day on 121-4 and slumped to 175-8 before National under-19 left-arm pacer Andre Stoll batted well for 34 then he fell to a full toss from spinner Danny Narayan just after lunch.
Deon Ferrier (who scored a brilliant unbeaten century on Saturday), Seon Daniels and Quesen Nedd picked up 2 wickets each for Malteenoes who used their Wicketkeeper Sarfraz Esau to bowl 2 overs instead of going for the kill before Steven Jacobs ended the innings.
Tailenders Seon Daniels and Carlos Larose opened the batting and finished the game in the opening over bowled by Stoll.
