Players convene for championships this morning
In an atmosphere of festivity, and witnessed by droves of spectators, T. Daniels was pronounced the winner of the grand prize of one 6 cubic feet refrigerator when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) staged a public drawing of its fund raising raffle in front of the Courts Main Street Office yesterday morning.
B. Narine won the second prize of one X Box 360 while L. Shaw walked away with a Citizen’s Eco Drive watch. In total, twelve lucrative prizes were at stake and indeed twelve persons are well off for having participated in the fund raising venture.
The other 9 lucky players are: David R Bacchus (overnight trip for two to Baganara Resorts); Abdool & Abdool Insurance (one bird phone); Dr Mangru ($20,000 worth of books compliments of Austin’s Book Store); Henry Rahaman (MP3 Player); Myron Debarros (DVD Player); Glen Hanoman (one food hamper); Veneva Heywood (dinner for two at Windjammer Hotel and Restaurant); Mortimer Richards (one pressure cooker) and Davindra Persaud (one trapper keeper). Executives of GASP would contact all winners to facilitate the handing over of prizes. Meanwhile, the GASP continues to address the final phase of its itinerary with the Auto Tech Car Rentals tournament this morning at the Everest Cricket Club Ground. While the tournament would provide valuable practice sessions for national champion, Abigail McDonald, preparing to represent Guyana at the World Scrabble Championships in Malaysia later this year, several other players would have their eyes riveted on the first prize.
Players, the likes of former national champion, Fred Collins, James Krakowsky, Grace Hercules and Yvonne Murray are some of the aspirants that would fancy their chances of procuring the honours. The top three finishers would win trophies among other prizes.
The tournament commences at 10:00hrs sharp but players are required to be at the venue by 09:30hrs to facilitate the registration period.
