The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (MCY&S) proved to be a good opponent as they lost to Floodlights XI in a very close softball match at the GCC Ground Bourda last Friday night.
After captain Alfred King won the toss and elected to bat first, they score a challenging 179 for 8 off 25 overs with Patrice Stewart top scoring with 47 and he was well supported by Daniel Richmond 33 and Carl Brandon 30. Rahaman Khan, Rohan Boojraj, Dru Bahadur and Mike Singh took 2 wickets apiece bowling for Floodlights.
Floodlights XI were off to a good start when Minister of Housing Irfan Ali making his debut for Floodlights (11 runs) and Ramesh Sunich 20 put on 27 in an opening stand. But it was man-of-the-match Reaz Hussain 37 and captain Surendra Nauth 23 that took Floodlights closer to the total.
Requiring 55 runs of the final 6 overs Floodlights was able to reach 181 for 7 off the last ball of the 24th over due to a quick fire 36 from Ricky Deonarain and Ramchand Ragbeer who hit the winning runs with a boundary.
This match was sponsored by Managing Director, Ramesh Sunich, of Trophy Stall at Bourda Market and City Mall. The two teams hope to reach again for a rematch early next year.
