The tactics that will be employed by the coaches of the respective teams in the final four of the inaugural Guyana Football Federation National Super League will be quite interesting as neither of them, are leaving anything to chance as they seek a place in the final.
Kaieteur Sport sought to get an idea of how they were thinking ahead of crucial encounters this evening.
Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United will be facing Milerock of Linden for the second time in the tournament in the first semi-final slated to commence at 17:00hrs. In their first encounter, the City side prevailed by a 2-0 margin but Milerock’s Head Coach Brian Joseph is contending that in the first match the goals that Alpha scored by virtue of blunders on the part of his players who are eager to make amends this evening.
Joseph said that Milerock switched their training from the Bayrock ground to the Mackenzie Sports Club ground as they sought to maximize and ensure full sessions.
“We have been going through some intense sessions doing lots of tactical work. We had two warm up games during the week against a combined team and Netrockers. Blunders on our part cost us in the first game against Alpha and we are eager to turn that around this time.
“We would not be making any wholesale changes to our team and we think we have a good chance of winning. Our focus is on the big prize.”
Joseph’s opposite number, Clifton Bobb revealed that Alpha will not be taking Milerock lightly and over confidence will not step into the fray.
“We will just be coming to play good football and play to our strengths as we know they {Milerock} will come to play hard. We too have been training hard and I expect my players to go out there and execute the plan.
Dwight Peters and Edison Gomes are back for us and with Captain Howard Lowe marshalling defence we are confident of putting on a good show.”
Tonight’s feature clash brings together Sunburst Camptown and the Guyana Defence Force. Camptown will be a confident unit having defeated the latter 2-0 when they met earlier in the tournament. The Campbellville side is also coming off of victory in the NAMILCO final on Friday evening against BK International Western Tigers.
GDF Coach Marlon Washington believes that his side’s chances of turning the tables on Camptown are good and he has confidence in the team justifying his belief that they will do the job.
“Our chances are 100% and I am basing this on the type of tactical work we have been doing. We are aiming to defend effectively against Camptown and we are also aiming to score first against them.”
Washington pointed out that his charges will have to keep a close eye on veteran playmaker Troy Prescod and Nigel Codrington as they are very good players who can be dangerous on the day.
The man in charge of the Technical side of things for Camptown, Sampson Gilbert says, his team will not be complacent, rather, they are focused and have been hard at work over the past weeks and he is expecting them to do well.
“We have been assessing our performance after each game aiming to do better in the next. Technical work has been ongoing as we seek to improve on our goal scoring, increasing our defensive capacity and play more compact and coordinated. Basically, we aim to improve on every game.”
At stake for the winners of this evening, are places in the championship game which has a 1 million dollar top prize.
