Five matches were played on opening day in the Seerja Construction Company sponsored 5 overs Primary Schools Windball Cricket Championships at the Carifesta Sports Complex.
The competition organised by Al Sport & Tour Promotion have attracted schools from West and East Coast Demerara including Comenius, Uitvlugt, Mahaica, McGillvry, Montrose, Monar Educational Institute, Grove, Smith’s Memorial and Mon Repos.
In results of matches played:
Comenius defeated Uitvlugt by 4 runs.
Taking first strike, Comenius made 68-5 off the allotted overs with Timothy Thompson hitting 33 and he was supported by Timmeon Spencer with 29.
Saief Baksh grabbed 3-11 off one over including a hat-trick. Uitvlugt in reply, were restricted to 64-2 when the overs expired.
Saief Baksh contributed 25.Mahaica and McGillvry played to a tie.
Mahaica batted first and compiled 44-1 with Odwin Campbell 17 and Joshua Nurse 15, being the principal corers.
McGillvry in their turn at the crease ended on 44-3.
Delon Souvenir 13 and Komal Singh 12 were the top-scorers.
Montrose beat Monar Educational Institute by 31 runs. Montrose reached 67-1 with Hardat Assirdad 42, being the top-scorer.
MEI in reply, was contained to 36-2.
Leonora beat Grove by 26 runs.Leonora made 56-4 with Hemendra Gaul stroking 19.
Grove replied with 30-8.
Smith’s Memorial went down to Mon Repos by 8 wickets.
Smith’s Memorial totalled 42-3. Mon Repos wiped off the required runs, ending on 45-2. Meanwhile, action in the competition continues on Monday, at the same venue with play in the Boys category.
