Dear Editor
Three weeks ago, at approximately 23:15 hrs one night, loud music was playing from a vehicle parked on the road in front of the premises where I reside.
At the time there was a very sick elderly relative in the house, this prompted my 73-year-old mother to ask the occupants who were standing outside the vehicle drinking beers to turn the music down, this humble request resulted in an abusive response with one of the offender asking the other one to pass his gun.
The relative died three days later and there is now a newborn in the house.
I was forced to call the Impact Base Unit on Sunday morning last at 2am after loud music began emanating from a vehicle parked in front of the premises, I asked the rank on duty to advise a patrol on duty to get the offender to turn the music down, he promised he would, half an hour later nothing was done, I called again and was promised for the second time that a patrol would be sent, it was roughly twenty minutes later I heard the music turned down, curiosity caused me to look through the window because I didn’t hear anything that would have suggested that a police vehicle was there and up till now cannot confirm if the patrol ever did come, what I saw was a relative who lives in another house at the front coming into the yard, to my understanding he was the one who had to go to stop these people, and even though the voice in the song could hardly be heard that sick booming bass was still very loud and invading the house causing great discomfort and sleeplessness at that unearthly hour.
Having a relative or even myself approaching these people was exactly what I was trying to avoid, because there are great bullies out there who are above the law; who know without the shadow of a doubt that they are protected, and so parking in front of someone else’s premises at any hour booming their music is a light thing.
I am so disgusted because many times these offenders are allowed and encouraged to do what they are doing because no one is enforcing the law. Many times patrols can be seen passing, and a vehicle could be playing loud music and these patrols would just go about their business as if nothing is amiss.
Night clubs, private parties, functions and events should be given a specific time after which music must be played extremely low – the time period should be the midnight hour.
I am sure that if a few of those offenders who seem bent on playing music from their vehicles while parked in the vicinity of other people’s premises at whatever hour are dragged before the courts, this simple problem would be eradicated.
I am asking the authorities to seriously address this ill that has plagued this society for way too long, people must be able to enjoy peace in their homes and be able to rest during those hours without some sick, inconsiderate animal disturbing and taking away their democratic right.
