George Yearwood, a 51-year-old man of 305 One Mile Wismar, Linden, who was charged with co-defendant Wesley Carto Payne, called ‘Piggy’ of Lot 17 Section ‘C’ Christianburg, Linden, was jailed for two years on Wednesday, on charges of robbery under arms committed at Blue Berry Hill, Wismar on September 11, last year.
The two men, while armed with a gun at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, relieved Helkah Velloza of one mobile phone, one pair gold earrings, one gold chain and one wristwatch.
They also robbed Evadney Tyrell of one DVD player, one pair gold earrings, one shoulder bag, one mirror, one Nokia cell phone and $530 in cash. Wesley Payne had pleaded guilty during an earlier court appearance and was sentenced to three years on each charge.
Yearwood implored the magistrate for leniency. “I was never there with the person (Payne) who committed the act. I got a family of seven.”
Magistrate Ann McLennan subsequently told Yearwood that judging from the evidence, which led to the charges, it was clear that he assisted in the commissioning of the crime through aiding and abetting at the crime scene.
His two two-year sentences would run concurrently.
