Six-wicket hauls for Azeez and Baker
The 2009 New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition organised by the Berbice Cricket Board for teams in the Ancient County continued recently.
Troy Matheson registered the highest score in the competition so far when he slammed 137 for Gibraltar/ Courtland against Sand Reef. His knock which included 8 fours and 9 sixes together with 97 (12 fours) from Travis Williams steered Gibraltar/ Courtland to 347 all out in 39.5 overs, the highest score in the competition so far. Matheson and Williams had put on 218 for the 3rd wicket between them.
After that the bowlers took over and with left arm spinner Lester Benjamin taking 4 for 11 from 5.5 overs and median pacer John Percival 3 for 16, Sand Reef were routed for 79 in reply, giving Gibraltar a whopping 268 run victory.
After his team, Young Adventures, made 189 against Lesbeholden, off spinner Akbar Azeez took 6 for 13 from 6.1 overs to restrict Lesbeholden to 111; his effort was the best bowling figures in the competition so far.
Brian Bakers 6 for 15 from 5 overs for Kendall’s Union spearheaded the routing for No.1 Road for a meager 55 all out in 11.3 overs. Kendall’s went on to win by 7 wickets.
Former Berbice 20/20 wicketkeeper, batsman Shastri Persaud slammed 95 (7 fours and 9 sixes) to assist his new team, Chesney defeat Fyrish by 5 wickets.
Letterkenny Young Star was led to an outstanding 262 for 9 in 35 overs by Naresh Persaud (61) and Jairam Jagdat (53). Medium pacer Jaipersaud Baijnauth with 4 for 24 and off spinner Anil Inderjeet with 3 for 9 then bowled Letterkenny to a 188 run victory.
After Flying Star posted a fairly challenging total of 213, West Canje were in their reply, faltering at 64 for 4 before Wahab Edoo (75) and Raymond Mohamed (50) put on 130 fro the 5th wicket to help them to a 5 wicket victory.
Also scoring half centuries were Asif Abrahim for No.2, Carlos Pluck of No. 8, Ian Lyte of Kimbia Crushers and Aslam Ally of Seawell.

At Bush Lot Farm, Young Adventurers of No. 35 beat Lesbeholden of Black Bush polder by 78 runs. Young Adventurers 189 in32.1 overs with Akbar Azeez 6 for 13, Brentnol Bourne 3 for 25.
At Kendall’s Union, Kendall’s Union beat No.1 Road by 7 wickets, No. 1 Road 55 in 11.3 overs with Samuel Baker 6 for 15, Bevern Smith 2 for 18. Kendall’s Union 56 for 3 in 11.3 Overs with Elroy Henry 2 for 25.
At Fyrish, Chesney beat Fyrish by 5 wickets. Fyrish 181 in 36.4 Overs with Sameer Khan 37, Rial Khan 4 for 41, Anesh Deonarine 3 for 26. Chesney 182 for 5 in 32 Overs with Shastri Persaud 95, Manoj Bramanand 36 N.O.

At Letterkenny, Letterkenny Young Stars beat Whim National B by 188 runs.
