Following the stabbing incident that occurred during the game between Pele and Riddim Squad in the NAMILCO Invitational Tournament, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) had acted swiftly in severely penalising the assailant, banning him from all activities either organised or sanctioned by them for life.
That was a deserving penalty for someone who according to many was a constant nuisance around football circles and it clearly sent a strong message to would be pretenders that no such action will be tolerated and if any decide to contravene the rules what would be the likely result for their acts.
GFF boss Colin Klass in an interview with Kaieteur Sport recently said that they fully condemn any act of indiscipline or violence and intend to deal severely with any person or persons who violate the rules and regulations as mandated by FIFA.
“The Disciplinary Committee has really sent a strong message and that is only the first of many steps that we propose to take to ensure that those who infringe the laws be punished severely.”
Klass noted that such acts of recklessness only serve to damage the image of the sport, thereby destroying all the efforts made to improve the game.
“Clubs, spectators and players have a responsibility to behave in a disciplined manner and we will be taking a firm look into any circumstance of indiscipline in the future to totally eradicate such behaviour,” Klass mentioned. He added that Fair Play must be a prerequisite to play the sport. The GFF President also promised his entity’s support to engage the clubs to help educate players and spectators of the need to behave in a disciplined and civilised manner at all matches.
